When I hear balance I hear equilibrium, and in my opinion that doesn’t exist in work/life.
To me balance implies equal amounts of time given to both. We know that is a physical impossibility. Eight hours at work cannot equal 8 hours at life, assuming 8 hours of sleep to total 24 hours.
Have a look at this article by Tim Denning about money in relation to time. Tim writes “Having the time to write, or to read, or to be with your family feels better than any other purchase you can make. I always thought work was about making money. Now I see work as a means of buying time and spending it on the things that matter to me.”
I have always believed that I should spend my time on what I like and want, rather than just what will get me the most money and the admiration of people. But, I’ve always had a very specific Personal Vision, and still do. It is my compass for all decisions I have to make.
Money is critically important, but if you are not enjoying earning it, and earning it for very specific reasons, “buying time”, your life will never feel balanced.
At The Alternative Board we believe that all Business Owners should enjoy earning and spending their hard earned money. More importantly though, on the things that matter to them.
The Personal Vision in our Business Builder’s Blueprint is the perfect tool for Business Owners to help and guide them, and see how every decision they make impacts their Personal Vision.
