We are approaching the end of this calendar year at an eye-watering pace. It struck me this morning that I am 6 weeks away from going on vacation. As co-owner and co-master franchisor of TAB in South Africa, I have the pleasure of virtually rubbing shoulders with fellow TAB owners in 25 countries at least monthly. Yesterday I had my Master Peer Board that consists of fellow owners from Australia, New Zealand, India, Chechia, Germany, France, and Portugal.
These meetings are conducted following the same structure of our Business Owner Peer Board Meetings, that also happen monthly.
At the end of each meeting everyone must share their take-away of the meeting.
In my day-to-day engagements I see and hear how Business Owners struggle (not my clients). These are men, women, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, working hard and some even very smart, and yet they can’t answer a simple question like, “What do you want, and why?”. (Is that technically two questions…?)
These Business Owners, leaders in the world, go through struggles that no employee can and ever will understand. They face the economy, politics, the weather, entitled employees, corruption, bribery, globalisation, and uncertainty that cannot be explained in words.
And yet, most of these Business Owners complain about not having enough time…
Time is never the problem. Bad, or lack of prioritization is the problem.
I posted previously, “The person to pity the most in the world, is the person having to wing it every day”. (Not my quote.)
Why would anyone start their day, week, month, not knowing what they want?
The why is critical – it gives us the reason to carry on when we go through the above struggles.
Every time I come out of a Master- and Business Owner Peer Board Meeting I am encouraged knowing that we don’t all go through the same struggles at the same time. Some still will, others already have, and some are going through a struggle now.
The one key take-away I always have is no matter the challenges or opportunities on the table, the Business Owners in the room always leave knowing that time is never the problem. What happens in these meetings that make me experience that? Shared Wisdom.
Will you be going on vacation as we approach the end of this year?
Will you be going where you want to?
I know you will be working, but is it because you choose to, or must?
And if you are not going on vacation, I hope it is by choice and not because of money.
