The Alternative Board Philanthropy Foundation

The Alternative Board Philanthropy Foundation

Your contribution, finally big enough to change something.

On its own, one donation can feel too small to matter. Pooled with a community of business owners – vetted, allocated and backed by real coaching – it becomes the kind of giving that actually builds South Africa.

Why good intentions stall

You want to give back. Something keeps getting in the way.

Most business owners care deeply about their communities. Yet the contribution often never happens – for two honest reasons.

"My contribution won't make a difference"

On its own, one donation can feel too small to move the needle - so it's easy to put off, and easy to never get to.

"I can't find an organisation I trust"

You want to know the money is used well, not lost to overheads or poor governance. Finding and vetting a reputable cause takes time you don't have.

The idea

Small contributions, pooled, become serious capital for change.

The TAB Philanthropy Foundation aggregates donations from a whole community of business owners into one fund – so your contribution joins something far larger than itself.

How it works

Three steps. We handle the hard parts.

1

Make a contribution to the TAB Philanthropy Foundation – at whatever level suits your business. It’s pooled with the wider community of contributors.

2

The Citadel Philanthropy Foundation independently vets recipient organisations and administers how funds are allocated – rigorous governance you don’t have to manage.

3

Our community of business owners identifies recipients and gives at least 12 months of pro-bono coaching and management support – so they’re built to be sustainable, not just funded.

Why this is different

Most giving stops at the cheque. This doesn't.

Independently vetted

Citadel Philanthropy does the due diligence and administration, so you know contributions go to credible, well-run causes.

Backed by expertise, not just cash

Recipients get a year of real coaching from experienced business owners - the difference between a once-off gift and lasting capability.

Focused on entrepreneurs

A deliberate bias toward entrepreneurial and community development - helping organisations that, in turn, create jobs and opportunity.

"It is our responsibility as South Africans to give back and invest in our communities.

A benefit for your business too

Give back, and reduce your tax.

Through the Citadel Philanthropy Foundation, qualifying contributors receive a Section 18A tax certificate – allowing you to claim your contribution as a deduction against taxable income, within SARS limits.

Individuals and trusts can deduct up to 10% of taxable income; companies up to 20%. Doing good and doing smart business are not mutually exclusive.

Section 18A certificates are issued subject to the Citadel Philanthropy Foundation’s PBO status and SARS requirements, and apply only to qualifying donations and donors. This is general information, not tax advice – please confirm your position with your tax advisor.
