How do you stay on top of your game? This is how I do.
Great question by a Business Owner, “I am determined to make this year my best yet and am looking for practical ways to stay on top of my game.” This is more than just about work. Here’s my answer specific to weekdays.
- Monday to Thursday; Friday is rest day for physical activity –
(Including Sat. & Sun.)
06h00 on the Stationary Bicycle for 60mins. I invested in one many years ago.
07h10 Meditation for 20mins. Started this in 2022. HUGE! benefits.
- Every weekday I eat breakfast at 08h00, then dinner between 19h00 and 20h00 –
My preference for breakfast is #Futurelife High Protein Smart Food (I have no relationship with them).
No food during the rest of the day.
Nothing to drink other than 2liters of water, and max. 4 espressos.
Dinner and fruit at home between 19h00 and 20h00.
I did a lot of homework on this, and after experimenting in 2022 I found that the above works for me – my focus, patience, decision-making and energy levels have improved DRAMATICALLY.
- I invested in a smart watch, one that serves my needs, not my ego –
Health – physical, brain, spiritual, and nutrition – is the MOST important thing.
I track my sleep, heart rate, calories, hydration, steps, movement, Body Battery, Stress, and Intensity Minutes.
It is great to get my “flow” – when to do what.
- I own every hour in my diary for the period 08h00 to 18h00 of every weekday –
Allocate every hour in your diary.
This is one of the most powerful things I have done for myself.
One of those allocations must be 60mins. to take care of those “unforeseen/unplanned things” that happen daily.
- I have an automatic reply to all received emails –
“I have received your email.
I reply to emails between 08h00 and 09h00, and 17h00 and 18h00 daily on weekdays.
If you need a response before then, call me.

- NEVER have back2back meetings –
Take time between meetings to “settle your brain”.
- Lifelong Learning –
90mins. minimum every day, including weekends.
60mins. of podcasts/YouTube on the stationary bike.
30mins. during the rest of the day.
- “Settle the dust” every day –
When I get home in the evening my wife and I – and if the kids are home them as well – spend time catching up on the day. No exceptions.
3 questions are answered:
Q1 – What was your low-point of today? You don’t have to have one, and if you do we challenge the “why”…
Q2 – What was your high-point of today? You MUST have at least one. It is impossible to go through any day and not have at least one…
Q 3 – What do you know now, that you didn’t know when you left home this morning? Anything…
- I get rid of the daily noise –
I don’t listen to the radio in my car.
No TV Monday to Thursday.
Allocate time for social media reading and posting.
