Do know that without stops and starts, nothing is possible, not even life?
What makes music? Not the instruments. Not the musicians. Not the composers.
What makes music are the stops, the silences between the notes.
Between every note is a stop, a silence as another note is selected to be played. Admittedly a very short stop, but a stop, nonetheless.
Without stops there will be just one long note.
Everything in life starts and stops.
You breath in, stop, and then out. You breath out, stop, and then in. An industry is driven by teaching people to breath…!
Nature stops and starts. So do playing games.
Everything in Business starts and stops.
In today’s world of clichés, we forget that clichés are overused truths.
“Take time for all things: great haste makes great waste”.
“Truth is confirmed by inspection and delay; falsehood by haste and uncertainty”.
We have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed into believing that rushing, hurrying is expected and ridiculously accepted.
But how often do you hear the words, “I/we should have…”?
Almost always because things were done too quickly, with not enough thought and planning, both requiring stops and starts.
People who under all circumstances can stop, take a moment, wait, hardly ever (perhaps never…?) say, “I/we should have…”
Imagine you need brain surgery.
I want to believe that you would want insist that the surgeon takes his or her time absolutely when working on your brain.
You don’t want to hear, “I should have” from the surgeon…
All Business Owners, well most, want their business to operate like a symphony, or perhaps a well-oiled machine. Both have stops and starts.
Next time you feel the need to start, or stop something, wait…
A well-oiled machine and good music both need people to make it happen.
