Nikita Mfenyana

Growing up and studying across Europe and Africa has given me a unique appreciation for diverse perspectives. I firmly believe in the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

My journey began as a civil engineer with a master’s degree, but in 1996, I made a pivotal shift to join South Africa’s largest development finance institution. For ten years, I conducted due diligence on businesses seeking funding, mainly in the tourism and franchising sectors. This role allowed me to work with a wide variety of enterprises across the country.

Witnessing the resilience of small business entrepreneurs, often facing numerous challenges alone, inspired me to focus on supporting SMEs. I believe that helping small businesses can significantly improve the wellbeing of ordinary people.

In 2006, I transitioned to a specialist risk financier focused solely on SMEs. I served as Chief Operating Officer of the Tourism Fund and later as Regional Consulting Manager. My role involved risk and impact management, mentoring small businesses, and ensuring compliance with corporate governance. I also pioneered the regional Technical Assistance and Supplier Development program, empowering service providers and small business clients to elevate their service levels.

Over the past 15 years, I have facilitated workshops on business planning and mentored numerous startups and lifestyle businesses. In 2019, I completed a postgraduate diploma in small business consulting, further solidifying my dedication to supporting entrepreneurs.

Today, as a facilitator, business coach, and business owner with The Alternative Board (TAB), I leverage my extensive experience to serve forward-thinking entrepreneurs. I am passionate about collaborating with different stakeholders across industries to achieve common goals and improve the lives of small business owners by enhancing their businesses.
