Owning and running a business is unique. Unique to the Owner.
Imagine 3 groups of yachts.
Each group has the same features.
There are three sizes of yachts, 5, 10 and 20 crew.
All yachts are going to sail around the world, starting and finishing at the same place.
This is not a race, will take 1 year and end on the same day for all.
We have 15 captains.
The captains have full responsibility for their yachts.
Each captain had to do a financial budget and was allocated their budgeted funds.
All yachts are in the same water and weather when they start.
Once the trip starts, nothing is the same.
Some captains might follow the same route, and although doing something similar, the captains will all
face bad and good weather, tides, crew issues, maintenance issues, and many more.
No matter how well they planned, each captain will act and react uniquely to the circumstances they face
during the trip.
The yachts are the businesses.
The captains are the owners.
The conditions on the water are the economics, politics, laws, industries, and the certainties and
uncertainties of it all.
What makes each business unique is what the Owner does.
And what the owner does depends on who they have around them that can and will be honest with them
and hold them accountable, where accountable = “how can we help?”
