In a rapidly evolving world, strategy must remain our focal point. Effective strategy encompasses agility and flexibility in decision-making, vigilant monitoring of market trends, and, most importantly, a readiness to pivot when necessary to seize opportunities and mitigate threats. It is this approach that ultimately sets us apart from our competitors.
With a wealth of experience across various executive committees—from hospitals to the nation’s largest gas company—my career has taken me to 24 different countries across the USA, Europe, and Australia. Navigating these ever-evolving and complex working environments has shown me that companies must find sustainable ways to grow, foster teamwork, and ensure all staff members are aligned with the company’s vision. My international travel and education have provided me with a broad perspective on diverse business operations and cultures.
Throughout my tenure on various boards and committees, I have primarily served in a financial capacity, which included focusing on strategic planning, restructuring, and all aspects of finance. Currently, I am the director of a hospital and founder/CEO of an aesthetics clinic. I have held the position of director on both boards for nearly two decades.
Formally, I hold an undergraduate and Honors degree in Accounting Science, along with a Master’s Degree obtained in Australia. I am a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, Chartered Global Management Accountants, and a member of the South African Institute of Tax. My qualifications include a diploma in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) from the American Heart Association, and I completed my articles at KPMG, one of the top four audit firms in the world, specializing in the financial services sector, particularly banking and insurance.
Whether it involves refining a business model or restructuring a company, The Alternative Board is here to offer services to help you achieve your goals and sustainably grow your business. By providing the tools, skills, guidance, and access to networks, we ensure that you will reach the objectives you have set. Surveys from our board members have indicated a 74% increase in profitability, a 76% increase in revenue, and a 90% improvement in the ability to address organizational issues.
Consider these questions:
- Am I avoiding my weaknesses and solely focusing on my strengths?
- Am I indecisive in making decisions due to the fear of failure?
- Am I one step ahead of my competitors?
As Winston Churchill aptly said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” Reflecting on this, remember that the greatest risk of all is not taking any risks at all.
