Are you doing what you enjoy, and is your business creating value?

This is #2 of my “unpacking” and “demystifying” Vision, Mission, and Purpose (VMP), and why it is critically important. As the Business Owner, Leader, how satisfied, happy, are you with what you do and get involved with in your business? Have you settled for “it is what it is”? Is your business delivering on your vision, and commitment to your clients/customers? Are your clients paying for a product/service, or for value provided?

Your Role in the business.

Why did you start your business?

Surely not to be involved in the day-to-day activities? In the starting months and years yes, but now?

If you know where you want the business to go (Business Vision), how has your role changed to do that?

How must your role change? How are you going to do this?

Answer this question – how satisfied are you that (1) you are involved in company activities (2) that you enjoy doing (3) and have the greatest potential impact?

Give yourself a rating on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is “not at all” and 10 is “100% satisfied”.

Business Purpose.

Perhaps when you started your business you did so because you had enough of the corporate world, or perhaps you had enough of working for someone else. Maybe you saw an opportunity to meet a need that your employer at the time didn’t meet, or you wanted to be your own boss.

No matter the reason, to have a successful business requires that whatever you do, leaves clients and customers better off after dealing with you. Remember – get a client on price, and you lose a client on price.

So, whatever your reasons for starting your business, if you do not offer value to the world, you will fail, guaranteed.

Answer this question – how satisfied are you that you (1) clearly define and (2) communicate the purpose of your business (3) beyond profitability?

Give yourself a rating on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is “not at all” and 10 is “100% satisfied”.

Can you see how these questions are linked to your VMP? It serves as your North Star, your compass.

Are you doing what you want to, and is your business creating value? These two must be aligned, if not you will fail.

If you are not satisfied with one or both of your above scores, let’s have coffee.
