Much has been said and written about Life/work Integration, or Work/life Balance. And much more will be said and written. The challenge most Business Owners & Leaders face is they don’t know what they want – not for themselves and not for their business.
In #7 of “unpacking” and “demystifying” Vision, Mission, and Purpose (VMP), and why it is critically important, I look at Life/work Integration and Management Team Effectiveness.
Life/work Integration – Personal Vision
Most if not all people want to be loved, share their life with another person.
People in general also want to spend time with friends and family, and most people want to have fun and engage in some form of recreation.
And most people, far too many people, blame time for not having Life/work Integration.
Life/work Integration changes as time goes by. I am 5 years older than my business partner. My daughters are in their early twenties; his daughters are in high school.
My time is spent very different to the way he spends his time, so our definitions of Life/work Integration is different, given our different life stages.
There is no one fits all Life/work Integration.
How satisfied are you –
With the time and activities, you dedicate to your life partner?
With the amount of time, you spend with friends and family?
With the amount of time, you spend on fun and recreation?
On each of these, give yourself a rating on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is “not at all” and 10 is “100% satisfied”.
Management Team Effectiveness – Company Vision
To be able to have time to have the above Life/work Integration requires a Management Team that you can trust, rely on. A team that will deliver when you are not around. A team that understands your vision for your business. A team that you want to have and keep around you.
How satisfied are you that you have the right supporting team in place to fulfil your company vision and to what extent are you able to develop and retain them?
Give yourself a rating on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 is “not at all” and 10 is “100% satisfied”.
If you are not satisfied with one or both of your above scores, let’s have coffee.
