In my previous post, I shared how golf and business are strikingly similar. Let’s continue that theme.
Before a round of golf even begins, we visualize how we intend to play each hole. While it rarely goes exactly to plan, this mental preparation helps us map out the course, identify hazards, and decide on a strategy. Standing on the 1st tee, we assess the hole, weigh the risks, consider our strengths and weaknesses, and choose our club accordingly. We imagine our next shot and plan the sequence that will (hopefully) lead us to the green.
This process is no different in business.
Before embarking on a project or pursuing a goal, we envision the desired outcome. We conduct SWOT analyses to understand our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. We build strategies that take known “hazards” into account, and we decide how best to navigate toward success.
In both golf and business, the first attempt rarely delivers the perfect result. But we don’t give up. We pause, reassess, and adapt. We consider what’s changed, where we are now, and what our next move should be. This cycle of recalibration continues — round after round, day after day.
Over time, we improve. Why? Because experience builds knowledge. We become better at processing information and making smarter decisions. We anticipate risks more clearly, develop multiple paths to reach our objectives, and manage our expectations more realistically.
And just like in golf, we don’t grow alone. We learn from watching others, reading, listening — and, most importantly, through coaching and mentorship.
If you believe that you could benefit from business coaching — having an experienced guide by your side — let’s talk. Take the first step toward reaching your goals and building a stronger business and life.
