Technology will not help you grow your business.
Getting to sample something is the best way to determine your interest in, and the potential worth and value to you of what you get to sample.
Business Owners that want to sample what we do got together this morning in Pretoria for such a sample. We call it Sample Boards.
One owner, 30 years in business, wanted to know how to leverage technology to grow his business.
After the clarification questions, two of the pieces of the advice given were –
(1) First be clear on what your Strategic Advantage/Unique Value Proposition is. Then see if, where and how technology can add value to your business internally, and/or in delivering your solutions, your uniqueness to your clients.
(2) As part of his advice the Owner of a technology business commented, “Technology does not fix bad processes. It highlights bad processes and does so quickly”. His advice was, first get your processes right.
If you are not clear on your Strategic Advantage/Unique Value Proposition, technology won’t help you to gain advantage and differentiation.
When last did you do a review of your relevance?
If what you are doing now is not at its possible best, technology won’t help you to make that better.
Are you still of the opinion that what got you here will get you there?
Technology is meant to help us deliver our uniqueness. It is not what makes us unique.
Mobile phones help us to communicate. It doesn’t make communication unique.
Google helps us to get answers. It doesn’t tell us the questions.
Microsoft helps us with productivity – it doesn’t make us more productive, force us to use the applications.
Technology must be used, or it’s useless.
Not using technology to –
Record a song = no song;
Type a document = no document;
Build a car = no car;
Heat up food = cold food;
And many more.
People’s activity is what grows a business. Included in that activity is how we utilize technology.
Growing your business, increasing sales, being more profitable, all starts with you.
