Porpoising is when the car is bouncing up and down, “a motion that is not only horrendously uncomfortable for the drivers but also bad for their health. It’s also costly for the teams as they have to change the car’s set-up to minimise it, which means raising the ride-height, robbing them of downforce, pace and ultimately, points.”
“In 2023, F1 teams have to operate at $135m as per the budget cap regulations.”
Think about that… $135m at their disposal, and the car bounces…
Imagine the driver is you, the car and support team are your business, and the track and weather are the business environment – clients, suppliers, and the general economy.
All businesses no matter country, size, and industry, including F1 teams, have three resources – time, money, and people.
Businesses and F1 teams, have a picture of what they want, company vision. The owners have their vision of what they want for themselves, personal vision. To achieve these visions, plans are necessary to cover the gaps between the now and the vision.
All review performance consistently – adjustment, exit & entry of strategies to achieve the vision, and in the case of the owners their own exit.
To solve porpoising can be very challenging, and it must be solved. It takes everyone to be on their best and work for a common goal.
For an F1 team the goal is winning.
For business the goal is to make a profit. But is also happens to be the same for F1 teams.
Business is not unique to countries, industries, and their size.
Hospitals have gone to F1 teams to learn from them.
Technology companies look at other industries for future developments and needs.
We listen to podcasts and read books from people not in our industries, and countries.
To see an F1 pit team in action is beautiful.
Everyone knows what their roles are.
“At the 1993 Belgian Grand Prix, Benetton performed a 3.2-second pit stop, a new record that eventually stood for over a decade and a half. It would be considered slow by today’s F1 standards.”
“Since 2010, pit stop times have gradually gone down, though process and equipment advancements are now deep into the realm of diminishing returns. Red Bull Racing currently holds the record for the fastest pit stop at 1.82 seconds, set at the 2019 Brazilian Grand Prix, and since that year, the average pit stop time has remained largely the same. Today, the limiting factor is the human brain.”
Business Owner, the latter applies to you and your business as well, “the limiting factor is the human brain.”
How are you focusing daily, and reviewing regularly – at least monthly – the gaps between now and future (visions), the plans to close those gaps, application of your resources – time, people & money?
