I spent last week with some farmers in the Moorreesburg area in the Western Cape. 1-2-1 sessions Tuesday and Thursday with each farmer, and our Peer Advisory Board Meeting for Business Owners on Thursday. Business is business, no matter the industry, came out clearly again.
Topics during the week were –
– Budget vs Cashflow forecast in a seasonal industry. The purpose of having your own business is to make money, lots of it, but owners don’t focus on their money when making decisions about the future – tomorrow, next week, next month, next year;
– When s@&t happens;
– Government bureaucracy – water, electricity, labour laws – and the impact on business and job creation;
– Diversification;
– My children are not interested in farming. What does exit look like and when;
– Family business and the challenges – not to be confused with the previous topic;
– The value of having a Peer Advisory Board Meeting for Business Owners (Yip).
