Johann Van Wyk

For more than two decades, I have worked alongside business owners, entrepreneurs, and leadership teams, helping them navigate growth, overcome challenges, and make better strategic decisions. Having worked with more than 1,000 business owners over the course of my career, I have gained a unique perspective on the opportunities, challenges, and decisions that shape successful businesses.

During my banking career, I led high-performing teams in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment where every year brought new challenges and required a new definition of success. While circumstances change, the principles that drive sustainable success remain remarkably consistent: clarity of purpose, disciplined execution, accountability, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

My passion lies in helping business owners move from feeling overwhelmed and reactive to becoming confident, strategic, and purposeful leaders. Through The Alternative Board’s proven coaching, peer advisory, and strategic planning processes, I help business owners gain clarity, challenge their thinking, improve accountability, and build businesses that are both profitable and sustainable.

Over the years, I have learned that some of the most important business breakthroughs happen through honest conversations, fresh perspectives, and the willingness to ask difficult questions. I believe business owners should not have to carry the weight of leadership alone. Having trusted advisors, a sounding board, and a framework for execution can make a significant difference to both business performance and personal fulfilment.

I am a firm believer in lifelong learning and continue to be inspired by business owners who are committed to growth, willing to challenge their assumptions, and determined to make a meaningful difference through their businesses. These conversations continually reinforce my belief that great businesses are built by leaders who remain teachable, intentional, and focused on what truly matters.

My approach is relational, practical, and grounded in genuine care for people. I value trust, integrity, confidentiality, and long-term relationships. I believe leadership is not a title but an example we set every day through our actions, decisions, and character. Some of the most valuable lessons of my career came not during seasons of advancement, but through periods of rebuilding and growth—experiences that deepened my understanding of resilience, perspective, and leadership.

Beyond business, I am passionate about helping people build fulfilling lives and meaningful relationships. Too often, business success comes at the expense of the very things that matter most. I believe it is possible to build a successful business while also creating the time, freedom, and balance to enjoy family, pursue personal goals, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
